The mission of United Ministries is to provide financial assistance to families in crisis who have emergency needs such as housing and utilities and to provide counseling which offers hope, encouragement and spiritual guidance.
United Ministries carries out its mission via a screening process:
- UM keeps extensive files on past clients.
- UM calls utility companies or landlords to verify past due bills.
- UM requests proof of income, expenses, and other social services received.
- UM never gives cash. Checks are written to the creditor.
- UM asks clients to pay part of the overdue bill, if possible.
- UM networks with other agencies for emergencies.
- UM listens, counsels, makes referrals, and prays with clients (with client’s permission).
United Ministries is a cooperative effort of many different churches and various individuals who volunteer time and resources to provide emergency aid to the less fortunate members of our community. Our efforts are focused on assisting families in crisis, with emphasis on preventing homelessness whenever possible. Funds are allocated directly to landlords or utility companies. Referral and counseling services are provided to all our clients.
